Wood Bath Mat Transform Your Shower to No Germs

This project took me more time than I though, the good thing is that it has been a learning curve. All wood projects comes down to make your home more efficient and beautiful, all wood workers start that way by improving their homes. I had a need for a problem that I've had for a long time and I bet you do too, I'm talking about the shower mat.

Shower mats are important, they save you for a bad slippery fall in the shower. My aunt use to tell me when I was a kid that the worst accidents are in the shower, I believe it and now more than ever than I'm older. Now these shower mats are usually made out of PVC material witch is toxic to the environment when you get rid of them, then after a while if you don't make the appropriate cleaning to the mat you get mold and now you are exposed to highly toxic germs. The bad news is that most of the people buy this type of shower mats because they are the most inexpensive of the selections of shower mats in the market.

So for me looking for an alternate solution was the infamous and super expensive Teak shower mat, Teak wood is beautiful but expensive you will usually find this in a Sauna room and also as an expensive shower mat at the stores. Teak is known for its incredible durability and water resistance. Teak has a high oil content, giving it the highest decay-resistance among all natural wood products. Teak is used for boat building, yachts, exterior construction, indoor and outdoor furniture, veneer, carvings, frames, and more. So is a good wood to work with hands down, maybe in the future I will get the opportunity to work with this type of wood.

Anyway the video that you are about to watch was an example on how to make a shower mat made out of wood, the one I've done is made  with pine wood which is not the best choice of wood for this particular project since pine wood is not very fond of water, but I did get a nice deck stain that I've use to protect the wood hopefully that will give the shower mat a longer life in my shower. If it gets bad the worst thing that can't happen is that I will have to make a new one.
